Lake Petersburg is less than 25 miles from Springfield, IL and located between the city of Petersburg and historic Lincoln's New Salem State Park in Central Illinois. With 14 miles of shoreline and almost 200 acres in size, it is large enough for boating and fishing, but rural enough to provide a relaxing quality of life to its residents.
The 18-hole Shambolee Golf Course is located adjacent to the west edge of the Lake Petersburg development. Fishing and boating is restricted to families of lake homeowners and lot owners (along with their guests.) All houses at Lake Petersburg are located on lake front lots.
The Lake Petersburg Association, an Illinois not-for-profit corporation, was formed April 1960. At this time the final site selection for Lake Petersburg was announced and consisted of approximately 1,000 acres. After moving approximately 900,000 cubic yard of earth, the dam was completed on August 26, 1963 and officially dedicated on Labor Day 1963. - The project was more than $424,000 - all of which was financed without state or federal funding.
Just a few miles north and you will find the town of Petersburg. It blends the old and the new into a place that is great to visit. To find out more about Petersburg and area businesses, Click Here.
